Pagham 0-1 Lancing
The Lions had a hat-full of second half chances to take this game, but in the end the Lancers made their point with a win at Nyetimber Lane.
Also concerning for the Pagham management was the loss of James Binfield through injury. Replaced by Neil Murfin just after the break, it's hoped the Lions' keeper will make a swift return, certainly for the Erith FA Vase tie on 21st October. Lancing had injury woes themselves, as Alex Bygraves crashed into an advertising hoarding on the 7th minute, and ended up with a hospital trip following a lengthy spell of treatment. As far as goal action went, both sides did have their moments. Lucas Tredrea looked especially dangerous for the visitors hitting the side netting early on, and Lewis Finney unlucky more than once. James Binfield was again much to the fore, saving well from Finney, whilst at the other end Callum Overton was an attacking force. No score at half time, with neither side breaking through despite their efforts.
Second half action began slowly, although Overton headed across goal nine minutes in. Referee Mr Baker was playing things very much by the book which resulted in a string of free-kicks for misdemeanours, both minor and major. The Lancing goal, when it came, was a beauty. Lewis Tredrea collected the ball on the left, spotted Murfin off his line. Giving the Pagham sub 'keeper no chance, he smacked the ball home to give the visitors the lead. Ryan Cox hit the side netting for Pagham a short while after, whilst the Lions had more than one shot on goal hacked off the Lancing line. Daryl Wollers' superb run on 81 minutes deserved far more than being ending with a Lions corner. It was rough justice on Pagham as the game entered the dying moments, with what looked like a decent penalty appeal waved away by referee Mr Baker. Overton hit the bar, & Scott Murfin had a shot rebound off a defender, to sum up a dispiriting night at Nyetimber Lane.
