Young Lions complete the Double!
The Lions came from behind to defeat Seaford Town in the Under 21 Challenge Cup Final on Thursday night to secure an amazing double.
Pagham took control in the early stages with the darting runs of Joe Kilhams feeding the front runners Josh Irish and David Crouch but the Town defence held strong and more than on one occasion cleared their lines after the heroics of keeper Jack Webb saved the day.
It was on a breakaway Seaford found themselves a penalty awarded as Harry Hendrick was found guilty of a foul in the area, but Jordan Matthews was up to the task and pushed the ball away to safety.
Pagham were the more dominating team in the first half with Johan Van Driel and Liam Humphreys pulling the strings in midfield and almost took the lead before half time when Joe Ashmore hit a 20 yarder that rocked the crossbar.
HT - Seaford Town 0-0 PAGHAM.
The second half saw Seaford more up for the game and this showed on fifty nine minutes when Tomkins rose to head home as the Lion’s defence stood watching. 1-0 Seaford.
From now on it was mostly Seaford looking to add to their tally but a reality check was to come as once more Joe Ashmore thundered yet another shot against the bar giving Pagham some hope.
The Lions fans were now in full voice and as the clock struck the 83rd minute, this lead to a penalty for hand ball against Seaford. Irish made the spot kick his own as he powered the ball to the keepers right and although Webb managed to get his fingers to it the ball it nestled in the net, sending the supporters behind the goal wild. 1-1.
Just six minutes later and Joe Kilhams picked the ball up on the half way line and withstanding a number of challenges found the time to smash the ball passed the Seaford 'keeper. An amazing solo effort well worthy of winning any cup final. 2-1 Pagham.
Seaford were shell shocked by now and it was only a couple of minutes later that David Crouch was rewarded for his efforts when he finished off a fine run from Matt Ryan who himself had a huge impact on the game. 3-1 Pagham.
Seconds later and the ground went black and white as Tom and Will's boys completed a double for the third year in a row.
